What is KDF?
KDF (Kinetic Degradation Fluxion) is a high-purity copper-zinc alloy used in many water filtration systems to reduce contaminants, including chlorine, heavy metals, and bacteria. This compound functions by creating a chemical reaction that changes contaminants into harmless components—such as turning chlorine into chloride, which easily dissolves in water. Its inclusion in Body Glove filters is essential for reducing impurities and enhancing water quality.
KDF is often golden in color, so any bright gold-brown residue on the filter is likely small particles of this substance. During shipping, especially in varying temperatures, it’s not unusual for some KDF residue to shift toward the filter’s rim. While it may look unusual, this residue is not a foreign substance and does not indicate that the filter is damaged or ineffective.
What to Do If You See Residue on Your Filter
When you notice the gold-brown sticky residue, a simple wipe should be enough to remove it. Then, after installing your filter, flush it with water for 5-10 minutes as directed. This flush allows the filter to settle and removes any loose particles, ensuring clean and ready-to-use water.
